Philosophy

KYCC’s childcare is founded on the belief that Early childhood education is the crucial foundation for life. We believe that the preschool years are critical in a child’s physical, intellectual, cognitive and emotional growth.

We believe that children need a structured and predictable environment which is nurturing emotionally and physically safe.

We practice a progressive philosophy. We believe children learn through play and direct experience. Our multicultural and anti-bias curriculum is designed to help children expand their thinking and encourage curiosity in order to integrate their cognitive, emotional, and social development.

We provide a variety of developmentally appropriate interest areas to explore, and hands on experiences with lots of open-ended materials. This creates a rich environment for children to learn, grow and develop at their own pace. We focus on problem solving, nurturing creativity, developing social skills and build meaningful learning experiences from the emerging interests of the children.

Children are free to choose from a variety of teacher directed and child- initiated activities and interest areas including: exploring sand and water, dramatic play, stories, language and literacy activities, science exploration, block building, manipulative and numeric devopment, art and carpentry materials, music and movement, clay and playdough, sculpture, painting collage work, cooking, gardening and a variety of active outdoor exploration. All of these activities are designed to promote high self-esteem, independent learners, friendships, and foster life long feelings of competence.
