We provide a variety of developmentally appropriate interest areas to
explore, and hands-on experiences with lots of open-ended materials. This
creates a rich environment for children to learn, grow, and develop at
their own pace. We focus on problem solving, nurturing creativity, developing
social skills, and building meaningful learning experiences from the emerging
interests of the children.
Children are free to choose from a variety of teacher directed and child-initiated
activities and interest areas including: exploring sand and water, dramatic
play, stories, language and literacy activities, science exploration,
block building, manipulative and numeric development, art and carpentry
materials, music and movement, clay and play dough, sculpting, painting
collage work, cooking, gardening and a variety of active outdoor exploration.
All of these activities are designed to promote high self-esteem, independent
learning, friendships, and foster lifelong feelings of competence.
Comprehensive support services will include parent education, health services,
case management services, mental health services and information about
and referral for other types of services needed by families. All enrolled
families will also have access to other KYCC programs such as our small
business assistance program, academic programs for elementary and middle
school youth and leadership development programs for high school youth.
Our center has an international and multicultural population. We cherish
and encourage contributions from families of diverse backgrounds.
